MarmarosMáramaros
Marmaros, also known as Máramaros, is a historical region located in Eastern Europe. Today, it is divided between Romania and Ukraine, with the Romanian part being significantly larger. The region is characterized by its mountainous terrain, dense forests, and the Maramureș Mountains which give it its name. Historically, it was a county within the Kingdom of Hungary, later becoming part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Following World War I, it was partitioned between the newly formed Czechoslovakia and Romania, and later, after World War II, a significant portion was ceded to the Soviet Union, becoming part of Ukraine.
The culture of Marmaros is rich and diverse, influenced by Romanian, Ukrainian, Hungarian, and Polish traditions.
