Markkinaoikeuteen

Markkinaoikeuteen is the illative form of Markkinaoikeus, the Market Court of Finland. The Market Court is a Finnish administrative court specialized in competition and market regulation law. It operates within the Finnish court system and handles cases concerning competition and consumer protection, including issues such as abuse of market power, cartels, mergers affecting competition, and related regulatory matters under applicable acts like the Competition Act and the Consumer Protection Act.

The court typically hears appeals and cases arising from decisions by authorities such as the Finnish Competition and Consumer Authority (Kilpailu- ja kuluttajavirasto, KKV) and other regulatory bodies. Its role is to interpret and apply competition and market regulations to ensure fair competition and protect consumer rights. The Market Court thus acts as a specialized forum for disputes that require detailed understanding of market practices and regulatory frameworks.

Procedurally, the Market Court is composed of a president and a panel of judges. Most cases are decided by panels, commonly consisting of three judges, and proceedings may involve written submissions and oral hearings. Decisions from the Market Court can be appealed to the Supreme Administrative Court (Korkein hallinto-oikeus) with permission to appeal, following the ordinary administrative appeal route in Finland.

Established in the early 2000s and based in Helsinki, the Market Court functions as a specialized branch within Finland’s administrative court system. It contributes to the development and uniform application of competition and market regulation law in Finland, working in coordination with the Finnish authorities to oversee market practices and protect both competition and consumer interests.
