Margim

Margim is a coastal town in the fictional nation of Lyria, situated on the western shore of the Ardent Sea. It serves as the administrative center of Margim District and functions as a regional hub for fishing, trade, and tourism.

The origin of the name Margim is uncertain. Local folklore links it to the Margine language, where the term is said to mean “edge of the sea,” while linguistic studies on historical maps have suggested other possible roots.

Geographically, Margim lies in a sheltered natural harbor with a small river to the north and low-lying hills to the east. The climate is temperate, with mild summers and wet winters; annual rainfall averages around 850–950 millimeters.

Margim began as a fishing village in the 11th century and grew through maritime trade in the medieval era. It acquired municipal rights in the 1500s and expanded into crafts, aquaculture, and, in modern times, coastal tourism.

As of the latest estimates, Margim has about 8,500 residents. The economy relies on fishing and seafood processing, with additional activity from small manufacturing and services for visitors. The town maintains a harbor, market, and promenade.

Cultural life centers on the Sea Lantern Festival, held each spring, and a weekly Market Day. Notable landmarks include the Margim Lighthouse, the Old Market Hall, and the ruins of Fort Taranis.
