Mambo

Mambo is a term used for multiple topics, most notably a Cuban-origin dance and its associated music, and an open-source content management system. The dance and the music developed in Havana in the 1940s, drawing on Afro-Cuban rhythms and big-band influences. The music is built on a strong, syncopated rhythm, and the dance is known for its energetic, quick steps and smooth hip movement.

In its dance form, mambo emphasizes the 2 and 4 beats in a 4/4 measure and is commonly performed to lively brass-led arrangements. It gained international popularity in the 1950s, aided by performers who helped bring the style to new audiences in the United States and elsewhere. The mambo shares roots with other Latin dances such as cha-cha-cha and rumba, but remains distinct in its tempo, rhythm, and step patterns.

Mambo Open Source (MOS) is a free, open-source content management system written in PHP. It uses a database such as MySQL and provides a framework for building and managing websites with modular extensions and templates. MOS was released in the early 2000s and achieved widespread use among small to mid-sized sites. In 2005, governance and licensing disputes led to a fork that produced Joomla!, which continued as a separate project and grew in popularity, while the original Mambo project gradually declined.
