Malumotning

Malumotning is the genitive or possessive form of the Uzbek noun ma'lumot, meaning information. It expresses a relation of possession, attribution, or content, corresponding to "of information" or "information’s" in English. In Uzbek, the genitive case is formed by attaching the suffix -ning to the noun; the form agrees with the head noun in number and definiteness. In standard Uzbek orthography the base noun is ma'lumot, while malumot is a variant found in some texts or dialects; both can appear in genitive form as ma'lumotning or malumotning.

Usage and function: malumotning is used to describe properties of information or to specify sources, contents, or relational aspects involving information. For example, ma'lumotning manbai means “the source of information,” ma'lumotlarning ishonchliligi means “the reliability of information,” and ma'lumotning xavfsizligi means “the safety of information.” In plural constructions, the suffix attaches accordingly: ma'lumotlarning himoyasi means “the protection of information.” This form is common in formal writing, journalism, IT, and academic discourse when discussing data governance and information management.

Orthography and context: while ma'lumot is the standard form in modern Uzbek, malumot appears as a variant in some sources and older texts. The genitive suffix -ning is a typical feature of Turkic languages with postposed possessive markers, and its use helps to create clear noun phrases such as information-related attributes or references.
