Malacañan

Malacañan, officially Malacañang Palace, is the official residence and workplace of the President of the Philippines. Located in the San Miguel district of Manila, it is the seat of the executive branch of the Philippine government. The palace complex is situated along the Pasig River.

The origins of Malacañan trace back to 1750 when it was built as a summer residence for a Spanish colonial official. Over time, it was acquired and expanded by various individuals and eventually became the official residence of the Governor-General of the Philippines during the Spanish colonial period. Following the transfer of sovereignty to the United States, it continued to serve as the residence of the American governor-general. It was officially designated as the Malacañang Palace in 1935 when Manuel L. Quezon became the first Filipino president to reside there.

The palace grounds include several buildings, with the main structure being the Presidential Residence. Other important areas are the Executive Building, which houses the offices of the President and his staff, and the Mabini Hall, which is used for meetings and ceremonies. Malacañan has witnessed numerous significant events in Philippine history, including presidential inaugurations, state visits, and the signing of important legislation. It remains a powerful symbol of the Philippine presidency and a focal point of national governance.
