Maismaal

Maismaal is a fictional planet featured in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. It is known as a hive world, a common type of planet in the Imperium of Man characterized by its extremely high population density. Massive hive cities, towering structures that reach into the upper atmosphere, dominate the landscape. The vast majority of the planet's inhabitants live their entire lives within these gargantuan urban sprawls, rarely, if ever, seeing the natural surface.

Life on Maismaal is harsh and stratified. The upper levels of the hive cities are home to the elite, often connected to the Imperium's vast bureaucracy or military. Below them lie the teeming masses of the lower levels and underhives, where poverty, crime, and mutated gangs are rampant. The air is thick with pollution, and the constant hum of machinery and overcrowded populations is the norm.

Maismaal's primary importance to the Imperium lies in its sheer manpower. Its enormous population provides a seemingly endless supply of Astra Militarum (Imperial Guard) soldiers, factory workers, and other essential personnel. Despite its grim conditions, Maismaal is a vital cog in the Imperium's war machine, constantly contributing to the endless conflicts that plague the galaxy. The planet's unique ecosystem, if one can even call it that, is almost entirely artificial, shaped by centuries of industrial activity and densely packed habitation.
