Magnetdruck

Magnetdruck, also known as magnetic printing, is a printing process that utilizes magnetic principles to transfer ink onto a substrate. In this method, a magnetic drum or cylinder is employed. The drum is coated with a magnetic material that can be magnetized to create a pattern. This pattern is typically generated by a magnetic writing head or by exposing the drum to a magnetic field that corresponds to the desired image.

Once the magnetic pattern is established on the drum, it attracts magnetically charged ink particles. These ink particles adhere to the magnetized areas of the drum. The substrate, such as paper or plastic, is then brought into contact with the drum. The ink is transferred from the magnetized areas of the drum to the substrate through an electrostatic or mechanical force, depending on the specific variation of the process.

Magnetdruck can be used for various applications, including printing on flexible materials and producing specialized graphics. It offers advantages such as the ability to print on non-porous surfaces and potentially faster printing speeds in certain configurations. However, the complexity of the magnetic drum and ink system can also present challenges in terms of cost and maintenance. The process is distinct from standard magnetic stripe encoding found on credit cards, as it is a method for image transfer.
