Magneettipäät

Magneettipäät, known in English as magnetic heads, are essential components in magnetic storage devices. Their primary function is to read and write data onto magnetic media, such as hard disk drives, floppy disks, and magnetic tape. The operation of a magneettipää relies on the principles of electromagnetism. When writing data, an electric current passes through a coil within the magneettipää, generating a magnetic field. This magnetic field is concentrated and directed by a tiny gap at the tip of the head, which magnetizes the corresponding area on the storage medium, representing a binary 0 or 1.

During reading, the process is reversed. As the magnetized medium moves past the magneettipää, the magnetic flux from the medium induces a current in the coil. The direction and strength of this induced current correspond to the magnetic orientation on the media, allowing the device to decode the stored data. Modern magneettipäät are incredibly sophisticated, capable of writing and reading data at extremely high densities. They are typically made from ferromagnetic materials and are designed to be very close to the surface of the storage medium, often floating on a thin cushion of air to achieve the necessary precision and speed. The advancement of magneettipäät technology has been a key driver in the increasing storage capacity and performance of digital devices.
