Madalsageduskõlarid, often referred to as woofers, are loudspeaker components specifically designed to reproduce low-frequency audio signals. These frequencies typically fall within the range of 20 Hz to 250 Hz, encompassing the fundamental tones of bass instruments, deep vocalizations, and the rumble of explosions in film soundtracks. The primary function of a woofer is to move a large volume of air, which is essential for generating audible low-frequency sound waves.

The design of a woofer differs significantly from that of drivers intended for higher frequencies. Woofers usually feature larger, more flexible cones or diaphragms that can travel further distances (excursion) to displace air effectively. The motor structure, comprising a voice coil and magnet, is also optimized for powerful magnetic force to control this large cone movement. Suspension elements, such as the surround and spider, play a crucial role in guiding the cone's motion and preventing unwanted resonances.

Woofers are integral to most modern audio systems, including home stereo speakers, subwoofers, and professional sound reinforcement systems. In multi-driver speaker systems, a woofer handles the bass frequencies, while other drivers, such as mid-range speakers and tweeters, are responsible for higher frequency ranges. This division of labor allows each driver to operate within its optimal frequency range, leading to more accurate and dynamic sound reproduction. The size and design of a woofer can greatly influence the overall sound profile of a speaker, with larger woofers generally capable of producing deeper and more powerful bass.
