MacAmhlaidh, also known as MacAlistair, is a Scottish clan that traces its origins to the ancient Scottish kingdom of Dál Riata. The name MacAmhlaidh is derived from the Gaelic "Mac Amhlaigh," meaning "son of Amhlaigh," a personal name that is not well-documented in historical records. The clan is believed to have settled in the area around Argyll in the 9th century, where they established their stronghold at Dunstaffnage Castle.
