Maalot
Maalot is a city located in the Northern District of Israel, situated on a ridge overlooking the coastal plain. The name Maalot, meaning "ascents" or "steps" in Hebrew, likely refers to its elevated position. The modern city was established in 1954 as a development town, intended to absorb immigrants and provide them with housing and employment. It was later combined with the neighboring community of Tarshiha, a predominantly Arab town, to form the municipality of Ma'alot-Tarshiha.
