MTtekstin is a Finnish-language text transformation service that specializes in improving the quality of machine-translated (MT) text. Launched in 2018 by a consortium of Finnish universities and technology companies, the platform offers a suite of linguistic tools designed to correct typical errors found in automated translations. The service is available both as a web application and as an API that developers can integrate into their own products.

The core functionality of MTtekstin relies on rule-based correction and statistical models trained on a corpus of professionally edited Finnish translations. Users can upload raw MT output in formats such as plain text, JSON, or XML. The system then applies a series of post‑editing modules that include morphological adjustment, syntactic realignment, and lexical refinement, producing a text that reads more naturally for native speakers. In addition, MTtekstin provides confidence scores for each sentence, helping users identify sections that may still require manual review.

MTtekstin has been adopted by several public sector agencies in Finland for processing official documents and by educational institutions to aid language learning. In 2021 the service received the Finnish Innovation Award for its contribution to the digital society. While the free tier offers limited processing per month, an enterprise plan provides higher throttling limits, priority support, and customizable correction rules. The platform’s API is documented in a developer portal and includes SDKs for Python and JavaScript.

Future development plans announced in 2024 aim to extend support to other Uralic languages, such as Estonian and Finnish Sami, and to incorporate neural network‑based post‑editing modules. The project is governed by an open‑source license, and community contributions are encouraged through a public GitHub repository.
