MP4Box

MP4Box is a versatile command-line tool that is part of the GPAC multimedia framework. It is used to read, create, modify, and inspect ISO Base Media File Format (ISOBMF) files such as MP4 and MOV, enabling users to mux and demux tracks, adjust timings and metadata, and manage track information.

MP4Box can extract individual tracks from an MP4 file, repackage content into a new MP4, or fragment files for streaming. It supports adding or removing tracks, splitting or concatenating files, and rewrapping content between different container formats.

A key strength of MP4Box is its streaming-oriented packaging capabilities. It can generate initialization and media segments for adaptive streaming, including MPEG-DASH, and can produce fragmented MP4s suitable for delivery in modern streaming workflows. The tool also offers options for batch processing and automation via its command-line interface, allowing users to script packaging and editing tasks.

MP4Box is part of the GPAC project and is available on major platforms, including Windows, macOS, and Linux. It is used by multimedia developers, researchers, and content producers to prepare video assets for delivery in MP4- and ISOBMF-based workflows.
