MNLFs

The Moro National Liberation Front, commonly known as the MNLF, is a political organization in the Philippines founded on December 21, 1972, by Nur Misuari. Its primary objective was to achieve self-determination for the Bangsamoro people in Mindanao and the Sulu Archipelago. The group was initially formed to protest the perceived marginalization and oppression of Muslim communities in the southern Philippines.

The MNLF launched an armed struggle against the Philippine government, leading to a protracted conflict. In 1977, the Tripoli Agreement was signed, brokered by Libya, which proposed autonomy for 13 provinces in Mindanao. However, the implementation of this agreement faced significant challenges and disputes.

Over the years, the MNLF experienced internal divisions and shifts in its strategies. In 1996, the Philippine government and the MNLF signed the Final Peace Agreement, which led to the establishment of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM). Nur Misuari served as the first governor of ARMM.

Despite the peace agreement, the MNLF continued to advocate for the full implementation of its terms and addressed ongoing concerns of the Bangsamoro people. The organization's influence and leadership have evolved, with different factions emerging and engaging in various forms of political activism and negotiation. The MNLF remains a significant actor in the Mindanao peace process and in the pursuit of the Bangsamoro people's aspirations.
