MAMEUI

MAMEUI is a Windows graphical user interface (GUI) front end for the MAME arcade emulator. It combines the MAME core with a native Windows interface to simplify browsing, configuring, and launching arcade ROMs without using a command line.

Overview: The package provides a searchable and sortable list of games, per-game options, input configuration, and access to video, audio, and display settings through dialog boxes. It also displays game metadata such as publisher, year, and status, and can show artwork or screenshots where available. The UI supports organizing ROM paths, favorites, and simple management tasks that would otherwise require manual file edits or command-line switches.

History: MAMEUI traces its origins to the Windows front end known as MAME32, created to make MAME easier to use on Windows. It was later renamed and maintained as MAMEUI by volunteers in parallel with the main MAME project. Releases are typically synchronized with a compatible MAME core; users often install a MAMEUI package that bundles a matching MAME binary or instructs which version to use.

Licensing and distribution: Both MAME and MAMEUI are distributed under the MAME license, a permissive, non-viral license compatible with other open-source licenses. MAMEUI is separate from official MAME binaries, and ROMs or disk images are user-supplied and must comply with copyright.
