The MAC sublayer, or Medium Access Control sublayer, is a fundamental component of the data link layer in the OSI model. The LLC sublayer handles error checking and flow control, while the MAC sublayer manages the physical transmission of data. The MAC sublayer is standardized by the IEEE 802 committee, which has defined various standards for different types of networks, such as Ethernet, Wi-Fi, and Token Ring.
