M151A2

The M151A2 is a 1/4 ton, four-wheel-drive, tactical utility truck developed by Ford Motor Company for the United States military. It was introduced in 1960 as a successor to the M38A1 Jeep. The M151A2 underwent significant design changes from its predecessor, most notably the independent suspension system and a more rounded body. This provided improved off-road mobility and handling.

The M151A2 was designed to be versatile, serving in various roles including reconnaissance, troop transport, cargo carrying, and as a platform for light armament such as machine guns. Its compact size and maneuverability made it suitable for navigating difficult terrain and operating in confined spaces. The vehicle was powered by a gasoline engine and featured a four-speed manual transmission with a two-speed transfer case, providing four-wheel drive capability.

Production of the M151A2 continued for many years, and it saw extensive service with the U.S. military and allied nations during the Cold War and beyond. It participated in numerous conflicts, including the Vietnam War. Despite its robust design, the M151A2 also presented some safety concerns, particularly related to its tendency to roll over, which led to subsequent design modifications and safety protocols. The M151A2 has largely been replaced by the Humvee (HMMWV) in U.S. military service, but examples can still be found in reserve units and with some international militaries.
