Märkäprosessien is a Finnish term that translates to "wet processes" in English and refers to industrial or manufacturing processes that involve the use of liquids as a primary medium for carrying out a specific operation. These processes are common across a wide range of industries, including papermaking, textiles, mining, and chemical manufacturing.

In the papermaking industry, for instance, the wet process is fundamental. Wood pulp is suspended in water and then formed into sheets on a screen, with water being drained away. Similarly, in textile dyeing, fabrics are immersed in liquid dye baths, and in mining, processes like froth flotation use water to separate valuable minerals from waste rock.

The effectiveness of wet processes often depends on the properties of the liquid used, such as its solvent capabilities, viscosity, and surface tension. Control over factors like temperature, pressure, and flow rate is also crucial for optimizing outcomes. While wet processes can be highly efficient, they often generate significant amounts of wastewater, necessitating careful environmental management and treatment strategies to mitigate pollution and conserve water resources.
