Lögregla

Lögregla is the Icelandic word for police. The Lögreglan, or the National Police, is responsible for maintaining law and order throughout Iceland. Its primary duties include preventing and investigating crime, enforcing traffic laws, and providing public safety services. The organization is headed by a National Commissioner of Police, who reports to the Ministry of Justice.

The Lögreglan operates with a decentralized structure, with police districts covering different regions of the country. Iceland's police force is notable for its low level of armament, with officers typically not carrying firearms unless specifically required for a situation.
