Lågdoser

Lågdoser is a term used in Swedish to describe small quantities of a substance administered in amounts lower than the standard therapeutic or toxic dose. In pharmacology and medicine, the concept is applied to seek a balance between achieving therapeutic effects and minimizing adverse reactions, particularly in chronic treatments or preventive care. What counts as a low dose varies depending on the substance, the intended effect, and clinical guidelines.

In toxicology and radiobiology, lågdoser are examined for their long-term risk profile and potential non-linear effects. Some substances may show different biological responses at low doses compared with higher doses, a phenomenon discussed in terms of hormesis or threshold models.
