Lääkitysmuodot refer to the various ways medications are prepared and administered to a patient. The choice of a lääkitysmuoto depends on several factors, including the drug's properties, the intended route of administration, the desired speed of action, and the patient's condition and preferences.

Common lääkitysmuodot include oral forms such as tablets, capsules, liquids, and suspensions. These are convenient for self-administration and are often used for chronic conditions. Parenteral forms, administered via injection, include solutions and suspensions for intravenous, intramuscular, or subcutaneous delivery. These are typically used when rapid absorption is needed, or when the drug cannot be effectively absorbed orally. Topical forms, such as creams, ointments, gels, and patches, are applied directly to the skin or mucous membranes for localized effects. Inhalational forms, like aerosols and nebulized solutions, are delivered directly to the lungs for respiratory conditions. Suppositories are inserted into the rectum or vagina for local or systemic absorption. Ophthalmic and otic preparations are designed for administration to the eyes and ears, respectively.

Each lääkitysmuoto has specific advantages and disadvantages regarding absorption, bioavailability, onset of action, and duration of effect. Pharmaceutical science continually develops new and improved lääkitysmuodot to enhance drug efficacy, safety, and patient compliance.
