It describes a substance, material, or system that exhibits a significant change in its properties or behavior in response to variations in temperature. This sensitivity can manifest in various ways, including changes in electrical resistance, volume, viscosity, color, or chemical reactivity.

Many materials are naturally temperature-sensitive to some degree. For instance, most metals expand when heated and contract when cooled, a phenomenon known as thermal expansion. Liquids and gases also change their volume and pressure with temperature. However, the term "lämpötilaherkkä" is often used to refer to materials or devices specifically designed or utilized for their pronounced temperature-dependent characteristics.
