Lämpönsiirtoöljypiiri, often translated as thermal oil loop or heat transfer fluid circuit, is a system designed to transfer thermal energy efficiently from a source to a destination using a specialized heat transfer fluid. This fluid, typically a synthetic oil or mineral oil with high thermal stability, circulates within a closed loop. The primary function of the circuit is to manage and distribute heat in industrial processes where direct steam or water heating might be impractical or undesirable.

The basic components of a lämpönsiirtoöljypiiri include a heat generator, such as a boiler or electric heater, which heats the thermal oil. The heated oil is then pumped through insulated pipes to various heat exchangers, where its thermal energy is transferred to another medium, like a process fluid or air. After transferring its heat, the cooled oil returns through a separate set of pipes to the heat generator to be reheated, completing the cycle.

Advantages of using a lämpönsiirtoöljypiiri include the ability to achieve higher operating temperatures than is typically possible with water or steam at similar pressures. Thermal oils can operate at temperatures exceeding 200 degrees Celsius without generating high pressures, which simplifies system design and reduces safety concerns. Furthermore, these systems offer precise temperature control, minimizing temperature fluctuations and ensuring consistent process conditions. They are also less prone to corrosion and freezing compared to water-based systems.
