Lämpöemission

Lämpöemission, or thermal emission, is the process by which a body emits energy in the form of electromagnetic radiation due to its temperature. This phenomenon is governed by the principles of thermodynamics and quantum mechanics. All objects with a temperature above absolute zero emit thermal radiation, which is a broad spectrum of electromagnetic waves, including infrared, visible, and ultraviolet light.

The intensity and spectral distribution of thermal emission depend on the object's temperature and its emissivity, a measure of how efficiently it emits radiation compared to a perfect blackbody. A perfect blackbody, which absorbs all incident radiation and emits the maximum possible radiation at a given temperature, follows Planck's law of blackbody radiation. Real objects, however, have emissivities less than one and their emission spectra deviate from that of a blackbody.

Thermal emission is a fundamental concept in various fields, including astrophysics, where it is used to determine the temperatures of stars and other celestial bodies, and in materials science, where it is crucial for understanding the thermal properties of materials. In everyday life, thermal emission is responsible for the warmth we feel from the sun and the heat radiated by hot objects.
