Lämmityskaapeli, often referred to as a heating cable, is an electrical cable designed to generate heat. These cables are commonly used for various applications, primarily for preventing freezing and maintaining specific temperatures.

One of the most frequent uses of lämmityskaapeli is in frost protection for pipes, both in residential and industrial settings. By being wrapped around water or sewage pipes, the cable generates enough heat to prevent the water within from freezing during cold weather, thus avoiding damage to the pipes.

Another significant application is in floor heating systems. Lämmityskaapeli can be embedded within concrete screeds or under tiles to provide comfortable radiant heat to rooms, particularly in bathrooms and living areas. This offers an efficient and aesthetically pleasing way to heat a space.

Lämmityskaapeli also finds use in de-icing applications, such as on roofs and gutters to prevent ice dams and snow accumulation, and on driveways and walkways to keep them clear of ice. In industrial processes, these cables can be used for maintaining the temperature of tanks, pipelines, and other equipment to ensure optimal operation.

The cables typically consist of a resistive heating element surrounded by insulation and a protective outer jacket. They are powered by mains electricity and are often controlled by thermostats to regulate the temperature and ensure energy efficiency. Safety features, such as grounding and overcurrent protection, are integral to their design.
