Lyhytkasvuisuudella

Lyhytkasvuisuus, or dwarfism, is a medical condition characterized by significantly short stature. It is typically defined as an adult height of less than 4 feet 10 inches (147 cm). There are numerous causes of lyhytkasvuisuus, broadly categorized into two main types: disproportionate and proportionate dwarfism.

Disproportionate dwarfism is characterized by a trunk of average size with shorter limbs. The most common form of this type is achondroplasia, a genetic disorder affecting bone growth. Other causes include various skeletal dysplasias.

Proportionate dwarfism, on the other hand, results in the entire body being smaller than average, with limbs and trunk being in proportion. This can be caused by conditions such as growth hormone deficiency, chronic childhood diseases, or certain genetic syndromes.

Diagnosis of lyhytkasvuisuus usually involves medical history, physical examination, and genetic testing. Growth charts are used to track a child's growth trajectory. Treatment options depend on the underlying cause and may include growth hormone therapy, surgical interventions, or management of associated medical conditions.
