Luottotyypin is a Finnish term that translates to "credit type" or "loan type." It refers to the classification of a loan based on its purpose, terms, and the borrower's characteristics. Understanding the luottotyyppi is crucial for both lenders and borrowers as it dictates the conditions, interest rates, repayment schedules, and eligibility criteria of a loan.

Common luottotyypit include secured and unsecured loans. Secured loans require collateral, such as a property or vehicle, which the lender can claim if the borrower defaults. Examples include mortgages (asuntolaina) and car loans (autolaina). Unsecured loans, on the other hand, do not require collateral, making them riskier for lenders and often resulting in higher interest rates. Personal loans (henkilökohtainen laina) are a typical example of an unsecured luottotyyppi.
