Lungnaskurðlækningum

Lungnaskurðlækningum, or lung surgery, refers to surgical procedures performed on the lungs. These operations are typically necessary to treat diseases affecting the respiratory system. Common conditions treated with lung surgery include lung cancer, benign tumors, infections like tuberculosis or abscesses, and emphysema. Surgical intervention can also be used for lung transplantation, a procedure to replace a diseased lung with a healthy donor lung.

The recovery process varies depending on the type and extent of surgery, but often involves a hospital stay and a period of rehabilitation to regain strength and lung capacity. Complications can occur, as with any major surgery, and may include infection, bleeding, or air leaks. However, advancements in surgical techniques and postoperative care have significantly improved outcomes for patients undergoing lung surgery.
