Luminextekniikkaa

Luminextekniikkaa refers to a collection of technologies and methodologies used for high-throughput multiplexed analysis, primarily in biological and chemical research. The core principle behind Luminex technology involves the use of microspheres, often referred to as beads, that are internally dyed with distinct fluorescent signals. These unique fluorescent signatures allow for the identification of individual beads within a sample.

When performing an assay, these uniquely identified beads are coupled with specific biological or chemical probes, such as antibodies or nucleic acid sequences. These probes are designed to bind to target analytes of interest. After the binding reaction occurs, a reporter molecule, often another fluorescently labeled probe, binds to the captured analyte.

The Luminex system then uses a specialized flow cytometer to pass each bead through a laser detection system. This system measures both the fluorescent signature of the bead itself, identifying its unique code, and the fluorescence intensity of the reporter molecule. The fluorescence intensity is proportional to the amount of the target analyte present.

This multiplexing capability is a key advantage of Luminextekniikkaa, allowing for the simultaneous detection of dozens or even hundreds of different analytes in a single small sample. This significantly increases efficiency and reduces the cost and time required for experiments compared to traditional single-analyte assays.
