Lukemien

Lukemien is a constructed language (conlang) developed for linguistic experimentation and fictional world-building. It was created by an anonymous team of linguists as part of a comparative conlang project begun in the early 2010s. The language is intended to be naturalistic, with regular phonology, a layered morphology, and flexible syntax to illustrate typological variation.

Phonology features a moderate consonant inventory of 18 phonemes and five vowel phonemes with vowel harmony that spreads suffix vowels across word forms. Stress falls on the penultimate syllable in most roots, and syllable structure is typically CV, with occasional CCV combinations in loan or derived forms. The writing system uses a Latin-based alphabet with diacritics to indicate vowel harmony and stress.

Morphology is predominantly agglutinative, attaching affixes to noun and verb stems to encode case, number, definiteness, tense, aspect, mood, and evidentiality. Core word order is subject–object–verb (SOV), with postpositions and postposed case markers. Nouns inflect for nominative, accusative, and genitive cases, and verbs carry tense, aspect, and evidential markers. Modifiers generally follow the nouns they modify.

Lukemien has a small online community of learners and enthusiasts. Text corpora, dictionaries, and sample narratives are shared on dedicated forums and wikis. In its fictional setting, Lukemien is spoken by communities on a fictional archipelago and features rich oral storytelling traditions with cultural terms tied to seafaring and island life.
