Luftfilmstabilität refers to the ability of a thin layer of air, known as a Luftfilm or air film, to maintain its integrity and prevent its rupture or collapse. This phenomenon is crucial in various applications, including lubrication, heat transfer, and surface coating. A stable Luftfilm acts as a barrier, separating surfaces and reducing friction, or facilitating the even distribution of a fluid.

The stability of a Luftfilm is influenced by several factors. Surface tension plays a significant role, as it tends to minimize the surface area of the air film, potentially leading to its breakdown.
