Ludeca

Ludeca is a genus of marine bivalve molluscs belonging to the family Veneridae. These clams are characterized by their ovate to sub-trigonal shells, which are typically smooth or possess fine concentric growth lines. The exterior of the shell is usually white or yellowish, often with faint reddish or brownish rays. The interior of the shell is typically white.

Species within the genus Ludeca are found in temperate and tropical waters worldwide, inhabiting sandy or muddy substrates in shallow to moderately deep marine environments. They are filter feeders, drawing water through their siphons and extracting microscopic food particles. Like other venerid clams, Ludeca species are burrowing organisms.

The larval stages are planktonic before settling to the seabed to metamorphose into juvenile clams.
