Louis François, also known as Louis XV of France, was born on February 15, 1710, and reigned as King of France from 1715 until his death in 1774. He ascended to the throne at the age of five, with his great-uncle, Philippe II, Duke of Orléans, serving as regent during his minority. Louis XV's reign was characterized by a period of relative peace followed by increasing financial strain and social unrest that would eventually contribute to the French Revolution.

Early in his reign, France experienced some military successes, notably during the War of the Polish Succession. However, later conflicts, such as the Seven Years' War, proved costly and resulted in significant territorial losses for France. Domestically, Louis XV was known for his patronage of the arts and sciences, and his court at Versailles was a center of culture and fashion. He also undertook some administrative reforms, though their impact was limited.

Louis XV's personal life and relationships, particularly with Madame de Pompadour and Madame du Barry, were subjects of public discussion and criticism. His later years were marked by declining health and a growing disconnect between the monarchy and the populace. He died on May 10, 1774, at the Palace of Versailles, and was succeeded by his grandson, Louis XVI. The legacy of Louis XV's reign is complex, often viewed as a transition period where the foundations of the Ancien Régime began to weaken.
