Lobachevský, Nikolai Ivanovich (1792–1856), usually Anglicized as Lobachevsky, was a Russian mathematician and professor of geometry at Kazan University. He is best known as a founder of non-Euclidean geometry, developing a consistent alternative to Euclid’s fifth postulate that leads to hyperbolic geometry.
