Lixari

Lixari is a city-state and cultural region on the southern coast of Veridia, with the city of Lixari proper perched on terraced hills overlooking Lixari Bay. The broader region includes surrounding agricultural towns and forests. The majority population speaks Lixari, a Veridian language, with minority communities speaking neighboring dialects. The latest estimates place the region's population around 120,000.

The area has archaeological traces dating to the Iron Age, but Lixari emerged as a maritime trading post in the medieval period, flourishing under regional rulers. In the 18th century it joined the Veridian Confederation as an autonomous republic, and after constitutional reforms in the early 20th century it achieved full sovereignty while remaining in peaceful cooperation with neighbors.

Lixari is governed by a council of 13 members elected for four-year terms; the council appoints a magistrate who serves as head of state and government. The constitution guarantees civil rights and a separation of powers, with a regional police service and a judiciary. The council operates through committees focused on finance, infrastructure, and culture, and it maintains a degree of authority over regional education and land use.

The natural port handles fishing, freight, and passenger traffic. Agriculture focuses on citrus fruits, olives, and wine grapes. The craft sector is known for ceramics and textiles; transportation is supported by a rail network and a ring-road around the urban area.

Lixari has a rich oral and musical tradition, with festivals tied to the seasons and coastal life. Religious life is diverse, with reverence to regional shrines and public celebrations. Education is led by Lixari University and several primary and secondary schools, complemented by museums and a regional library network.
