Liukumisväliaineina

Liukumisväliaineina, or sliding agents, are substances added to polymers to reduce friction between polymer surfaces and between the polymer and other materials. This reduction in friction can manifest in several ways, such as improved processability, enhanced surface slip, and reduced wear. They are commonly used in plastics manufacturing and in end-use plastic products.

These additives work by migrating to the surface of the polymer where they form a thin, lubricating layer. This layer effectively lowers the coefficient of friction. The mechanism of action depends on the specific type of sliding agent. Some, like fatty acids and their derivatives (e.g., erucamide, oleamide), are low molecular weight compounds that bloom to the surface and orient themselves to provide lubrication. Others, like waxes, can also migrate and form a lubricating film.

The benefits of using sliding agents are diverse. In processing, they can reduce melt viscosity, allowing for easier extrusion and injection molding, and prevent sticking to mold surfaces. In finished products, they can improve the feel of a plastic surface, make it easier to slide objects across it, and reduce the noise generated by friction. Applications range from films and packaging to automotive parts and textiles. The choice of sliding agent depends on the polymer type, processing conditions, and desired end-use properties.
