Lithonias
Lithonias are a proposed group of extinct organisms that may have existed during the Precambrian era. The concept of Lithonias was introduced by paleontologist Arthur Lisle Oldham-Thompson in the mid-20th century. He interpreted certain fossilized structures, primarily found in ancient rock formations, as evidence of simple, possibly microbial, life forms that actively precipitated minerals. These structures often appear as layered or filamentous patterns within sedimentary rocks, resembling certain types of stromatolites.
The interpretation of these formations as biological in origin has been a subject of considerable debate within
