Linssiin

Linssiin is a constructed language (conlang) developed by linguist Mara Kline in 2010 for a science-fiction world. The language is designed for regularity and learning, featuring agglutinative morphology, vowel harmony, and a predominantly subject–object–verb (SOV) word order. Its speakers are fictional groups in Kline's imagined universe.

Linssiin originated within Kline's worldbuilding project and was first published online in the Conlang Archive. Over the following years, it underwent revisions as the fictional culture expanded and new texts provided linguistic data. The project emphasizes consistency over naturalism and is not intended as a real-world language.

Phonology centers on five vowels and a compact consonant set: p t k s m n l r h. Syllables are typically CV or CVC, with no consonant clusters. Orthography uses a Latin-based script; long vowels are marked with diacritics or digraphs in some texts, while the core system remains simple.

Grammatically, Linssiin employs an agglutinative system. Nouns mark number and eight cases, including nominative, ergative, genitive, dative, locative, instrumental, ablative, and comitative. Verbs encode tense, aspect, mood, and evidentiality through suffixes. Negation uses a separate particle. The default word order is SOV; adjectives follow nouns, and pronouns show person and number agreement.

As of now, Linssiin has a small but active online community of learners and writers. Resources include a reference grammar, a beginner course, and sample texts. The language is mainly used for fiction and linguistic hobby projects rather than real-world communication.
