Liiketutkimus

Liiketutkimus, often translated as motion study or movement study, is a technique used in industrial engineering and management to systematically analyze and improve the way work is performed. Developed by Frank and Lillian Gilbreth in the early 20th century, the core principle of liiketutkimus is to eliminate unnecessary movements and simplify necessary ones, thereby increasing efficiency and reducing worker fatigue.

The process typically involves observing a task being performed, breaking it down into its constituent motions or therbligs (a term coined by the Gilbreths), and then analyzing these motions to identify inefficiencies. Common areas of focus include the sequence of movements, the distance traveled, and the use of tools and equipment. The goal is to find the "one best way" to perform a task.
