Lihaskudosta

Lihaskudosta, or muscle tissue, is a specialized form of tissue in the body responsible for producing force and movement. It is composed primarily of long, cylindrical, and multinucleated cells called muscle fibers or myocytes. These fibers contain abundant contractile proteins, mainly actin and myosin, which facilitate muscle contraction.

Muscle tissue is classified into three main types: skeletal, cardiac, and smooth muscle. Skeletal muscle fibers are voluntary and connected to bones via tendons, enabling movements such as walking, lifting, and speech. Cardiac muscle is found exclusively in the heart and functions involuntarily to pump blood throughout the body. Smooth muscle is located in the walls of internal organs such as the intestines, blood vessels, and the bladder, contributing to involuntary movements like peristalsis and vasoconstriction.

Structurally, muscle tissue is characterized by its ability to contract in response to stimuli, a property known as excitability. It also exhibits elasticity, allowing tissues to return to their original shape after contraction, and extensibility, which permits muscles to stretch. The primary function of lihaskudosta is to generate force, enabling motion, maintain posture, and support various physiological processes.

Muscle tissue requires a rich supply of blood vessels to meet its high metabolic demands, providing oxygen and nutrients while removing waste products. Muscle health and function depend on proper nutrition, physical activity, and neurological control. Damage or diseases affecting muscle tissue, such as muscular dystrophies or inflammation, can impair movement and overall physical health.
