Lightwork

Lightwork is a term used in multiple domains to describe tasks, programs, or paths that center on light, energy, and illumination. In science, light can do work on matter by transferring momentum, as described by radiation pressure and photoelectric interactions. Technological applications that exploit this principle include optical trapping and manipulation with optical tweezers, solar sails driven by sunlight, and various photonics devices. In common usage, however, the phrase lightwork is rare as a technical term and more commonly appears as metaphorical language or in project names.

In spiritual and New Age contexts, lightwork refers to a vocation or practice of cultivating and directing spiritual energy to heal, uplift, or assist others. A lightworker is described as someone who carries and shares light—often through compassion, prayer, energy healing, guidance, or charitable action—and supports personal and collective awakening. The concept began to appear in late 20th-century metaphysical literature and has since spread through various communities and online platforms. Practices associated with lightwork vary widely and are not standardized.

In cultural and commercial usage, Lightwork has been adopted as a title or brand in music, art, photography, and technology, sometimes as a general nod to illumination, creativity, or positive change. Because the term is used in diverse ways, its meaning is typically inferred from context.
