Liechtenstein, officially the Principality of Liechtenstein, is a doubly landlocked alpine country in Central Europe. It is bordered by Switzerland to the west and south and Austria to the east and north. Liechtenstein is the sixth smallest country in the world by area. It has a population of approximately 39,000 people. The capital and largest city is Vaduz.

The official language is German. Liechtenstein is a constitutional hereditary principality headed by the Prince of Liechtenstein. The current ruler is Prince Hans-Adam II. The government is a parliamentary democracy. The country has one of the highest gross domestic products per capita in the world.

Liechtenstein is a member of the United Nations, the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), and the European Economic Area (EEA). It is not a member of the European Union. The country is known for its high standard of living and its stable economy, largely driven by the financial services sector. It is also a popular destination for skiing and hiking. The Rhine River forms a significant part of its western border. The official currency is the Swiss franc.
