LiDARpistepilviä

LiDARpistepilviä refers to the point cloud data generated by LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) technology. LiDAR is a remote sensing method that uses light in the form of a pulsed laser to measure ranges to the Earth. These pulses, when reflected off objects, are detected by a sensor. The sensor records the time it takes for the pulse to return and the angle at which it was transmitted. By precisely measuring these values for millions of laser pulses, a dense collection of three-dimensional coordinates is created. This collection of points is known as a LiDAR point cloud.

Each point in the cloud typically contains spatial information (X, Y, Z coordinates) and often additional attributes such as intensity, color (if combined with RGB imagery), and classification. LiDAR point clouds are used in a wide variety of applications. They are fundamental for creating high-resolution digital elevation models (DEMs) and digital surface models (DSMs), which are crucial for topographic mapping, urban planning, and environmental monitoring. In forestry, LiDAR can be used to measure tree height, canopy density, and biomass. In archaeology, it can reveal hidden structures beneath vegetation. The construction and engineering sectors utilize LiDAR for site surveys, infrastructure inspection, and progress monitoring. Furthermore, autonomous vehicles rely heavily on LiDAR point clouds for real-time environmental perception and navigation. The processing and analysis of LiDAR point clouds involve specialized software to filter, classify, and extract meaningful information from the raw data.
