Lhir

Lhir is a coastal city-state on the western rim of the fictional continent of Eldara, centered on a deep-water harbor that has long served as a trading nexus. The city functions as the political and economic heart of the surrounding region and hosts a diverse immigrant community.

The name Lhir derives from the ancient Lhiric language, meaning harbor or haven. Lhir began as a fishing-outpost in the 9th century and grew into a mercantile hub through control of sea routes and river trade. It joined a regional federation in the medieval era and later gained semi-autonomous status within a broader political framework.

Lhir lies at the mouth of the Nara River, with a temperate maritime climate. Its economy centers on the port, shipyards, tuna and sardine fisheries, transshipment, and craft industries such as textiles and rope-making. Tourism also contributes, focused on the historic quarter, markets, and festivals.

Lhir is governed by a City Council elected by residents, with a mayor as chief executive. The population is around 150,000 and culturally diverse, speaking Lhiran (official), Common Tongue, and minority languages. The city is religiously plural and secular institutions are common.

Lhir hosts the Tide Festival and has notable landmarks including the Grand Harbor, the Lighthouse of Lhir, and the Market Arcades. The University of Lhir maintains programs in maritime studies and trade.
