LewisMcChord
Lewis-McChord (L-MCCHORD) is a United States Army base located in Pierce County, Washington, approximately 9 miles south of Tacoma. The installation was formed in 1917 as Camp Lewis, named after Governor Ernest Lister and Secretary of War Henry L. Stimson, but was renamed Fort Lewis in 1927. The name change came from Victor Herbert's 1917 song "Over There," which included lyrics referring to the Army base as "Camp Lewis" with a nod to the Musical comedian "Cousin" Lewis McChord. The base has borne the name Lewis McChord since 2005.
