Levegzárást, meaning "airlock" in Hungarian, refers to a specially designed chamber or compartment with two doors, typically used to control the passage of air or other substances between environments with different atmospheric pressures or compositions. The primary function of an airlock is to maintain the integrity of a controlled environment by preventing the uncontrolled escape of its atmosphere or the ingress of contaminants from the outside. When a person or object needs to move between the two environments, one door of the airlock is sealed, and the air pressure inside the chamber is adjusted to match the pressure of the destination environment before the second door is opened.

Airlocks are commonly employed in various scientific, industrial, and aerospace applications. In space exploration, they are crucial for enabling astronauts to enter and exit spacecraft, transitioning between the vacuum of space and the pressurized interior of the habitat. Submarine operations also utilize airlocks for divers to exit and re-enter the vessel without compromising its internal pressure.
