Leukeodüstroofiaid
Leukeodüstroofiaid is a group of rare, inherited metabolic disorders that affect the white matter of the brain. White matter is composed of nerve fibers, called axons, which are covered in a fatty substance called myelin. Myelin acts as an insulator, allowing nerve signals to travel quickly and efficiently throughout the nervous system. In individuals with leukodystrophies, there is a defect in the production or maintenance of myelin. This can lead to a variety of neurological problems, depending on which specific leukodystrophy is present and how severely it affects the myelin.
Symptoms of leukodystrophies can vary widely and may include developmental delays, motor skill deficits, vision and
There are many different types of leukodystrophies, each caused by mutations in different genes. Some common
