Lepisosteus
Lepisosteus is a genus of prehistoric fish commonly known as gars. These ray-finned fish are native to North America and Central America. They are characterized by their long, slender bodies, elongated snouts filled with sharp teeth, and ganoid scales, which are thick and interlocking, providing significant protection. Gar scales are unique in that they are rhomboidal in shape and articulated, fitting together like armor.
