Lempääläs

Lempäälä is a municipality in Finland, located in the Pirkanmaa region. It lies about 20 kilometers south of Tampere, the regional capital. The municipality covers an area of 306.44 square kilometers, of which 52.86 square kilometers are water. As of December 2023, Lempäälä had a population of 24,491.

The history of Lempäälä dates back to the Middle Ages. The area was settled in the 15th century and the first church was built in the 16th century. Lempäälä became an independent municipality in 1866. Historically, agriculture and forestry were the main industries. Today, Lempäälä is a growing residential area with a significant service sector and some industry.

Geographically, Lempäälä is characterized by its many lakes, most notably Pyhäjärvi, which is a large and important body of water for the region. The landscape is generally flat with some rolling hills and forests. The Rapola ancient settlement area is a significant archaeological site within the municipality, offering insights into its past.

The municipality is well-connected by road, with the main highway E12 passing through it. Lempäälä also has a railway station, providing good public transport links to Tampere and other Finnish cities.
